Intern - Design, Communications and Visual Content Support
About PlanAdapt
PlanAdapt is a global network-based organisation with a decentralised Coordination Hub. We provide knowledge services in support of effective, economically just and socially inclusive climate change adaptation and climate risk management around the world. PlanAdapt’s mission is to work with and for people who are struggling with the impacts of climate change and climate injustice, particularly in the Global South.
About the Role
PlanAdapt is looking for a creative, organised intern with strong design and visual communication skills to support communications, fundraising and visual content development across the organization.
This role would suit someone who enjoys turning complex ideas into clear, attractive and professional materials. We are particularly looking for someone with good visual judgement, and an interest in climate change adaptation and climate risk management, research communication and social impact.
The intern will support PlanAdapt’s global, decentralised team with a wide range of visual and communication tasks, including the preparation of fundraising materials, slide decks, social media content, website visuals, graphics, diagrams, event materials and knowledge products.
This is a support role for someone who is happy to help with both creative design tasks and practical communications needs across PlanAdapt’s work.
Key Areas of Learning Areas and Tasks
The intern may support the team through:
- designing slide decks for internal meetings, external presentations, workshops and fundraising conversations
- visualising complex ideas, processes and research findings through diagrams, infographics and simple visual summaries
- preparing visual content and copy for PlanAdapt’s website and social media channels, including LinkedIn posts
- improving the layout and presentation of reports, briefs and other knowledge products
- designing event and workshop materials posters, banners and online workshop visuals
- maintaining visual consistency across PlanAdapt materials, templates and shared design assets
- helping organise and maintain a shared library of design templates, icons, graphics, photos and communication assets
- working with colleagues to make technical content more accessible for different audiences
We are looking for someone with
- strong graphic design skills and good visual judgement
- excellent Canva skills and confidence creating professional materials
- ability to design clean, consistent and accessible materials for different audiences
- good written English
- strong attention to detail, including layout, formatting, spacing, spelling and consistency
- ability to follow and apply organisational branding and style guidance
- ability to organise files, templates and visual assets clearly
- ability to work independently on defined design tasks while asking for clarification when needed
- creativity, initiative and willingness to test different visual approaches
- interest in climate change adaptation, climate risk management, international development, communications or social impact
Desirable Experience
It would be an advantage if the candidate also has experience with:
- Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Suite or similar tools
- WordPress or other website content management systems
- designing materials and social media content, especially for LinkedIn for NGOs, research organisations, universities
- preparing visual materials for fundraising, donor engagement or partnership development
- working with accessibility principles in design

Indicative Conditions
- Duration: at least 3 months, maximum 6 months
- Location: remote; optionally also in PlanAdapt’s offices in Berlin/ Germany or Kigali/ Rwanda
- Time commitment: ideally full-time; part-time possible (minimum 24 hrs/week)
- Start date: as soon as possible
- Compensation: 450 Euros for full-time commitment (proportional in case of part-time)
