Aline Lusieux Alves de Oliveira

Aline is a PlanAdapt Fellow, based in Aarau, Switzerland.

Aline is an urban planner and architect with more than 10 years of experience in 6 different countries, both in public and private spheres. She works with local governments, civil society, international partners, and educational agencies on the formulation of environmentally and climate-friendly urban development strategies, project frameworks and methodologies that promote the integration of economic, social, and environmental aspects into the planning process. In addition, Aline has also vast experience in the building sector with topics like (social) housing, education facilities, bioclimatic design, and energy efficiency. She has worked within GIZ projects in Brazil and Vietnam for the formulation of ecosystem-based adaptation solutions in low-income communities, participatory and gender-sensitive approaches for urban planning, development of technical guidelines for climate-adapted urban development, and the integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in municipal master planning.

In addition, Aline has worked on the evaluation of NDCs regarding their urban content, energy efficiency concepts in Germany, bio-climatic design in a rural setting in the Dominican Republic, numerous architectural projects in Brazil and Switzerland, as well as hand-in-hand with communities, universities, and government bodies facing water scarcity in Egypt. She has also research and teaching experience at Master level on topics like resource-efficient cities and integrated planning at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany Aline holds a Master of Science degree in Technology and Resource Management, with a focus on urban and regional management from the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Her master thesis focuses on the creation of a decision-making tool based on principles of system thinking and complexity theory, which enable the prioritization of sectoral and cross-sectoral themes for sustainable spatial planning. Aline holds a double degree in architecture and urban planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, German and Spanish, and is learning French.
