Susan Nanduddu
Susan is a PlanAdapt Fellow based in Kampala, Uganda.
She has 20 years of experience working with grassroots and national NGOs on Community-Based and Locally Led Adaptation, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, and participatory democracy.
She is interested in the interface between climate adaptation science, policy, and practice. She has contributed to the development of Uganda’s climate policies, participated in UNFCCC conferences, and led numerous awareness and training sessions on climate risk and vulnerability. For five years, she co-organised the international Community-Based Adaptation conferences, working with others from institutions across the minority and majority world.
She recently served as Principal Investigator on the Step Change initiative, which unlocked her interest in indigenous knowledge, particularly its role in informing farming decisions. She also contributed to the design of the Decentralised Climate Finance Mechanism as part of the rollout of the Least Developed Country Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR) in Uganda.
For a decade, she led a local organisation, ACTADE, in Uganda, successfully navigating the complex demands of compliance, fundraising, programme management, and board engagement with a small but committed team – learning first hand what grassroots organisations need to meaningfully drive community-led change.
She holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.
