Karen Dall

Karen is a PlanAdapt network member based in Berlin, Germany.

Her expertise and areas of interest lie at the thematic interface of disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and development cooperation, specifically food security and rural development.

Karen combines this thematic focus with methodological skills in spatial analysis (GIS and Remote Sensing) and both, quantitative and qualitative research methods, including participatory methods. She has worked for the United Nations University (UNU-EHS) where she conducted drought risk and impact assessments for South Africa and Ukraine in the context of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) collaborating also with UNDRR and FAO. Prior to that, she has worked for the German Development Institute (GDI) on social protection of the ultra-poor in Malawi. Further work experiences encompass consultancies for UN-SPIDER where she supported the promotion of space-based information for disaster risk management and the GIZ in Benin and Togo in the field of Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training (ATVET).

For her BSc and MSc in Geography Karen studied at the University of Giessen, Bonn and the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. Furthermore, she holds a postgraduate diploma in International cooperation for sustainable development of the Centre for Rural Development (SLE) at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
