New Partnership: Climate Adaptation Research & Consulting (CARC) and AIMS Collaborate to Advance Climate Adaptation Capacity in Rwanda and Beyond
A new collaboration aims to connect climate adaptation, mathematical sciences, professional training, and applied research for stronger evidence-based action
We are pleased to announce that our Rwanda-based affiliate, Climate Adaptation Research & Consulting (CARC), has entered into a new partnership with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding, the two institutions will collaborate on climate adaptation research, curriculum development, professional training, and practical learning pathways that strengthen evidence-based climate action in Rwanda and beyond.
The partnership brings together complementary expertise. AIMS contributes its strong academic and research platform in the mathematical sciences, while CARC brings experience in climate adaptation, climate-risk management, and the development of contextually grounded capacities for public and private sector actors.
Together, the partners aim to foster stronger connections between science, policy, and practice. Planned areas of collaboration include joint research and analytical work, the development of climate adaptation teaching content and specialized modules, support for Work-Integrated Learning (CARC has hosted two WIL Programme participants in 2025), and the co-organization of workshops, webinars, dialogues, and professional development activities.
The collaboration also opens space for joint proposal development and resource mobilization, helping both institutions pursue initiatives that build skills, strengthen networks, and support adaptation-focused innovation. Beyond formal outputs, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to growing the ecosystem of climate adaptation professionals and institutions across Rwanda and the wider Global South.
For CARC, this is an encouraging example of the kind of partnership needed to accelerate climate resilience: one that links academic excellence, practical application, and long-term capacity development. We look forward to accompanying and amplifying the work that emerges from this collaboration.
